1) DOPE TRAVEL COMMUNITIES
NOMADNESS TRAVEL TRIBE is a community of BIPOC world travelers and allies. I just got back from their annual conference, Nomadness Fest, and it was FIRE! So many incredible humans, so much love, so many important topics discussed. It was a whole vibe and I’m still reeling from it! I’ve interviewed the founder, Evita Robinson on The Maverick Show, as well as many other members. They have over 34,000 members in The Nomadness Facebook group, over 95,000 followers on Instagram, a newsletter, and in-person meetups in different cities. SHAZAM allows me to learn about the local music in the places I travel, and to make playlists from different countries and regions where I’ve been. I just press a button on the app whenever I hear a song I like (whether I’m sitting in a restaurant, riding in a taxi, walking through a mall, or dancing at the club), and it pulls up the name of the song and info about the artist. And, it allows me to instantly access the song on Spotify and add it to a playlist. So, after an extended trip in any country or region, I come away with a whole playlist of the best music I heard there, as well as knowledge about the artists! You can download it on Apple or Android.

LUANDA, ANGOLA. I spent a month in Angola earlier this year, based in the capital of Luanda. I was there over International Women’s Day, and this is one of the many African countries that makes it a national holiday. Definitely spend some time in the art market, where stunning paintings like this appear one after the other. You can stroll under the palm trees on the waterfront, or go get drinks on the beach, but be sure to get out of the tourist areas and hit some very local seafood spots and order all the local specialty dishes for the best food in town. Also, just outside the city is the Miradoura da Lua, a huge otherworldly rock formation that looks like the moon’s surface and is a must visit!
