AMERICAN RECKONING. While spending time in Natchez, Mississippi last week, I discovered this incredibly important documentary that examines Black opposition to racist violence in Mississippi in the 1960s, spotlighting an armed Black community defense group called “The Deacons for Defense and Justice”. It also features a journalist investigating the unsolved assassination of NAACP activist Wharlest Jackson. It draws on some never-before broadcast archival footage from the 1960s along with profound interviews conducted more recently. Watch the Film on YouTube Here.

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA is the birthplace of the U.S. civil rights movement where you can visit Martin Luther King’s home (that got bombed) and the church where he was the lead pastor. You can visit the Rosa Parks museum and learn about the Montgomery Bus Boycott, then visit the Freedom Rides museum at the actual bus depot where the Freedom Riders got attacked by a racist mob. You can also visit the Legacy Museum (and associated sculpture park and lynching memorial) which is one of the most powerful and important museums in the U.S.

KEEN SANDALS. I’ve been traveling with Keen sandals for years. Currently I use their Kona flip flops which have water repellant leather straps, quick dry lining, and are machine washable. High-traction rubber outsole pods makes it easy to go from the sand to the street and the compression molded lightweight midsole along with the metatomical footbed design provide excellent arch support and make them super comfy. See the Keen sandals and all my travel gear here.
