OHRID, NORTH MACEDONIA is one of my favorite spots in Eastern Europe. If you’re into stunning lakes and mountains paired with medieval castles, cobble stone streets, and some of the warmest people in all of Europe, I highly recommend it. The Old Quarter overlooks Lake Ohrid, and the Churches look like this. Definitely try to get out in a boat, and and don’t miss the sunsets. But one of my favorite memories is sitting around at the lakeside cafes for extended lunches by the water, drinking wine and laughing with my Macedonian friends. It still makes me smile.
