1) DESTINATIONS

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA is one of the most underrated cities in Southeast Asia. I’ve spent over 4 months in KL and it is hands-down one of the top food cities on the planet. The three major ethnic groups that make up the city are Indians, Chinese, and Malays, and the culinary scene alone is reason to spend extended time there. It also has one of the best speakeasy scenes in the world, so be sure to research the best ones…and how to get in! Like a speakeasy, much of KL’s magic lies hidden beneath the surface, so be sure to connect with locals and spend the time to uncover it. (Photo Note: I bought this Sherwani in Delhi, India but I’m rocking it here for an event at a Hindu temple in KL).

2) MOBILE APPS I USE

VIVINO is one of my favorite travel apps. It allows you to take a picture of the label on any bottle of wine (in a store or restaurant anywhere in the world), and it immediately pulls up all the information on that wine. It tells you the grape varietals, the appellation, the tasting notes, the average store price for that bottle, and the average customer rating out of 5 stars. So, even if you’re in a place where you know nothing about the wines, you can use Vivino to quickly and easily select the bottle that is the best value for money, and the one that you’re most likely to enjoy! 3) WHAT TO LISTEN TO

I TOLD THEM. In December 2022 I saw the Grammy-winning Nigerian legend Burna Boy perform live in West Africa…and it was everything. He has been selling out stadiums around the world, and is now the first African artist to have the #1 Album in the UK with his latest one that just dropped, “I Told Them”. It features hip hop icons like Rza, Gza, J Cole, and others. Whether you’re already a fan of Afrobeats or not, definitely give this one a listen. You can stream it on Spotify here.
