2) DESTINATIONS

NIKE ART CENTER in LAGOS, NIGERIA is the largest art gallery in West Africa (a five story building containing over 8,000 works by various Nigerian artists) and one of the dopest I’ve been to anywhere in the world! As I discussed on Episode 38, I had the amazing privilege to meet the women that owns the gallery, Nike Davies-Okundaye, a world renowned Nigerian artist who holds chieftaincy titles in Nigeria and whose works permanently hang in the Smithsonian in Washington DC and London. When you hit Lagos, The Nike Art Center is not to be missed!

3) WHAT TO READ

12 Trips in 12 Months: Make Your Own Travel Magic. I interviewed Jen Ruiz on Episode 151 and she just dropped her long awaited book! The year before her 30th birthday, Jen decided to change everything and embarked on an epic challenge: Twelve months, twelve trips, no excuses. Over the course of the year, Jen descended into a volcano in Iceland, volunteered at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand, called in sick to fly in a hot air balloon, and went scuba diving at an underwater museum in Mexico. In a moving and inspiring story, Jen invites readers along through the year when she started living for herself, discovering the power of solo travel magic, challenging herself physically and emotionally, and learning she could feel fulfilled and happy on her own. It’s available for pre-sale anywhere books are sold or listen to the audio book with a free trial of Audible here.

Did you Listen to Last Week’s Episode of The Maverick Show?

Last week I interviewed Harry Mitsidis, one of only 3 people on the planet who has visited every country twice! Harry shares stories about being imprisoned in Yemen, gorilla trekking in DR Congo, and why his visits to Ukraine and Palestine were so special. He also shares his experiences in Somalia, Nigeria, and gives detailed recommendations for visiting one of his favorite countries in the world, Serbia. Listen to the episode on your favorite platform here.
