SUMMITING MOUNT KILIMANJARO in Tanzania was a 5 day hike up through 5 different climactic zones. It culminated in a 7 hour day-hike to the base camp, then an afternoon nap, followed by a midnight departure for a 9 hour night-hike up incredibly steep and challenging terrain to Uhuru Peak. Temperatures were below zero with very little oxygen as we approached 19,341 feet to summit the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. And then, you have to go right back down, so, in a 34 hour period, we hiked for about 24 of those hours. It’s as much a mental and emotional test as a physical one. My full experience and all my tips are in Episode #211 of The Maverick Show.

THIN OPITCS READING GLASSES have been a game changer for me. They are stylish but also ultra-thin and they fit into a completely flat case that is 4mm thick (about the width of two credit cards)! They come in a number of different styles and one even fits into a keychain case. And, they offer Sunglasses as well. Check out Thin Optics Reading Glasses and all of my travel gear.

DIGITAL NOMADS FOR DUMMIES. I have interviewed Kristin Wilson 4 times on The Maverick Show and she is truly the most qualified person I know to write this book. It is a gold mind of resources for digital nomads, regardless of your experience level. I have both a physical copy and the audio version and I continually consult it as I travel. I was also honored to be one of the digital nomads featured in this book! And, if you’re interested in hearing the real behind-the- scenes of what went into writing the book, Kristin tells all in Episode 219 of The Maverick Show.

Last week I interviewed Jen McKinney, author of “Keep Calm, Bring Your Carry On: The Ultimate Selfcare Guide for Travelers of Color”. Jen is a digital nomad who spends most of her time between Accra, Ghana and Cape Town, South Africa. She told the story of her father, Black Panther Party activist Gene Allen McKinney, and his pivotal role in the 1968 trial of Huey P. Newton. She also talked about her decision to become a mental health professional and shared tips for world travelers. You can stream the episode on all podcast platforms or directly on The Maverick Show website.
