THE STORY OF ABDUL RAOUF. I interviewed Yulia Denisyuk on Episode 282 and Episode 283 and she just won a Gold Telly award for her new short form documentary (which competed against 13,000 entries)! In the 6-minute film Abdul Raouf Abu Taha tells the story of his Palestinian family living in Jordan with the legacy of the 1948 Nakba–the ethnic cleansing, expulsion of 750,000 people, and near-total destruction of Palestinian society. The film was shot and edited by Yulia entirely on her iPhone, without the backing of a big studio, funding, or team. Watch The Story of Abdul Raouf here.

DOSE OF TRAVEL CLUB is a community founded for South Asian travelers by Dr. Nabila Ismail who I interviewed on Episode 288. There are organized trips to amazing places around the world, as well as a paid membership community that creates a safe and supportive space for discussions relating to South Asian cultural identity. You can also join the 5,000+ person Dose of Travel Facebook group for free here.

|
Last week I interviewed Anita Moreau, the founder of Black Travel Summit. She talks about growing up in London with a Haitian father and a Seychellois mother, and reflects on Blackness in the U.S. vs. the U.K.. Anita then talks about her passion for Egypt and her decision to get married in Nubia. She also talks about her trips back to Haiti and the Seychelles, reconnecting with her heritage, and her passion for telling Afro-Indigenous and global Black diaspora stories. Anita then explains what you can expect at the 2024 Black Travel Summit and offers you a special discount for attending. Listen to the episode on your favorite platform here.
