He was abducted by plain clothes government agents without a warrant and disappeared across state lines to a detention center. The U.S. government is boasting that Mahmoud is not suspected of any crime and that they detained him purely for his political speech (advocating for Palestinian human rights) which is fully protected by the Constitution. Mahmoud’s detention is a test case for an authoritarian lurch that poses a threat to every person in the U.S.. 3) DESTINATIONS

MALTA is a super unique Mediterranean Island where I’ve spent over a month. From the distinct sandstone colored architecture to the Maltese language being the only descendant of Sicilian Arabic, it also has some wild history. Odysseus was apparently held captive by the Calypso as a sex slave there, and St. Paul the Apostle was shipwrecked there while being transported as a prisoner and is now their Patron Saint. The painter Caravaggio was given refuge in Malta when fleeing a murder rap in Italy (it’s home to the only painting he ever signed), but then he nearly killed one of the Knights of Malta, broke out of prison, and fled the island! It’s a fascinating place and highly worth a visit.
