1) TRIPS TO JOIN

VISIT JORDAN with award-winning travel journalist and activist Yulia Denisyuk who I interviewed on Eps 282 and 283. The tour guide on this trip is a Palestinian-Jordanian photographer and the trip itself is organized by a Palestinian-Jordanian tour operator. By coming to Jordan now, you’ll be supporting the local tourism industry that saw an 80-90% decline in tourists last year. The 10-day trip runs May 18 – 27, 2025 and you can see the full itinerary, prices, and get $150 off with the Code MAVERICK when you Register Here.

2) WHAT TO LISTEN TO

F****D UP is the new resistance anthem by Macklemore that just dropped this week and it is FIRE–the lyrics, the video, and the beat, absolute mic drop! This follows Macklemore’s Hind’s Hall and Hind’s Hall 2 which I highly recommend as well. After you watch this video, please share it (it’s also available on Macklemore’s IG, and of course the audio version is available on Spotify but be sure to watch the video first). He is donating all streaming proceeds to UNRWA USA. Watch the video on YouTube here.

3) EXPERIENCES

LAC ROSE (Lake Retba, AKA “The Pink Lake”) in Senegal has a 40% salt concentration (arguably the highest in the world). The water is jacuzzi-hot and turns pink for about half the year. 3,000 men and women from all over the West Africa work as salt-harvesters in boats like this and I went on a sunset salt-harvesting expedition with one of them. On our way back to shore, I went into DJ mode, pulled out my Bluetooth speaker, started bumping the local Senegalese club bangers, and we had a boat party all the way back to shore!

Did you Listen to Last Week’s Episode of The Maverick Show?

Last week I interviewed Youshita Fathi who reflects on her recent trip to Jamaica, including the ethical dynamics of visiting low-income or high-crime areas. She also tells stories from her recent trip to Libya and then talks about growing up in Iran and applying for refugee asylum in Europe. She reflects on what she learned from the other refugees she met and then describes her experience culturally acclimating to Austria, confronting stereotypes about Iranians, and working at an NGO to help religious minorities emigrate from Iran. Listen here on your favorite platform.
