Episode Summary

Jennifer Magee returns to the Maverick Show and talks with Matt about epic shared travel adventures since the last episode. They talk about the birthday experience Jen organized for Matt in the Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa and their time in Cape Town together. Then Jen tells the story of how she chased two robbers through the streets of Lisbon, Portugal after they stole her iPhone. Jen and Matt then reminisce about their trip to Bolivia and why they were both blown away by the country. Then they discuss their experience going to Diner en Blanc in Paris, wine tasting in Bordeaux and Burgundy, and nearly driving off a ravine in Corsica. Jen then explains the architectural significance of Antoni Gaudi’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona. Jen also shares her experience speaking on a “Women in Architecture” panel in New York City and how she fielded questions from other architects about running her location independent architecture business. Jen then speaks about her Angel Investing. She begins by explaining what an Angel Investor Is and the difference between full time vs. part time angels. She explains how to think about bootstrap vs. seeking investment capital. She then explains her personal criteria for evaluating start-ups and deciding to invest. Jen also talks about what makes a desirable Angel Investor from a founder’s perspective why founders should reject some Angel Investors. Jen then explains the difference between angel Investors vs. advisors. She also explains the biggest mistake that founders make when raising investment capital and the most important challenges founders have to overcome.
